Kenton drink driver crashed into three parked cars during first night out after lockdown

A drink driver has been banned from the roads after he ploughed into three parked cars during his first night out after lockdown.

Cameron Farrell-Hayton, a soldier in the British Army, was three times over the limit when he hit the vehicles near his home in Kenton, Newcastle.

The 19-year-old was arrested after police were called to the scene and he failed a roadside breath test.

Now, Farrell-Hayton, of Bowfell Avenue, Kenton, has been fined and disqualified from driving for 26 months after he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court.

Ben Woodward, prosecuting, said the defendant as seen travelling in his Vauxhall Astra along Bowfell Avenue on June 17 this year.

He continued: "The defendant collided with three parked cars in the street. The police were naturally called to the scene.

"The defendant was found drunk within the vicinity of the vehicle and he failed a roadside test."

The court heard that Farrell-Hayton gave a reading of 102 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 35.

Janice Hall, defending, said Farrell-Hayton, who has no previous convictions, was apologetic, regretted his actions and was ashamed.

"These offences occurred shortly after he was deployed to the Falklands between October and Apirl," the solicitor added.

"He came back in the middle of lockdown and was unable to see or socialise with friends.

"As restrictions were lifted, this was his first opportunity to go out with friends .

"He very much regrets the decision to make the short journey back to his home address."

Farrell-Hayton was fined £538 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £54 victim surcharge.
