Kensington pub rebrands to The Trump Arms and opens permanent 'Charlie Kirk debate room'

A Kensington pub has rebranded to “The Trump Arms” and opened a permanent room dedicated to assassinated right-wing activist Charlie Kirk in honour of the US President’s state visit to Britain.

The MAGA overhaul of the Biddy Mulligan’s pub near Olympia features a “debate room” in tribute to the political media personality who was shot dead in the US last week.

A banner with the bar’s temporary name has been raised onto the roof of the Irish pub and will remain there until Donald Trump leaves the UK. Biddy Mulligan’s underwent a similar transformation at the time of Trump’s first state visit in 2019.

The tavern has also been holding a series of events this week celebrating the life of Charlie Kirk and free speech .

Mr Kirk, a promoter of the MAGA movement and defender of the constitutional right to bear arms, was shot dead at an event for his conservative Turning Point organisation on a university campus in Utah. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been charged with murder.

Landlord Damien Smyth said: “Millions of people around the world have been left horrified that a decent family man like Charlie could be slaughtered during a peaceful, and open public debate. We owe it to his wife and children to send a clear message that we stand against the rise of left-wing extremism and violence.

“Likewise, President Trump has been democratically elected not once, but twice, and deserves respect for all his achievements in making America great again.”

On his second visit to the UK this week, Trump is not expected to make an appearance in London and is instead being hosted at Windsor Castle and the Prime Minister’s grace and favour country home Chequers.

Pub regular Patrick Sullivan said: “President Trump has cracked down on crime, curbed illegal immigration and reversed America’s decline.

“The British look across the pond with envy at such strong leadership, which is why a political tidal wave in now inevitable.”

But Trump has not received such a warm welcome among other Londoners.

An estimated 5,000 people gathered outside Parliament Square on Wednesday to protest the President’s visit.
