Kenny Willekes drafted in 1st round by Steelers in way-too-early 2020 NFL mock draft

I believe there is an old saying in the sports world that there is no better time to start doing NFL mock drafts than exactly one month after the last draft. Thor Nystrom of Rotoworld just released his first draft for the 2020 NFL Draft, and Michigan State stud defensive lineman and former walk-on Kenny Willekes was mocked to go 21st to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This would be a welcome sight for Spartan fans and players alike, as this past year was not the most fruitful for Michigan State alums. Justin Layne, who was originally projected to be drafted as high as round one, slid all the way to the third round where he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Here is a blurb of what Thor Nystrom had to say about Kenny. You can read his full report here.

If Willekes is kept out of Round 1 in the spring, it’ll be because of athletic limitations. He’s a relentless effort player. But Willekes’ two-note pass-rush game (hands, quicks and pray for rain) can get stymied by skilled tackles. Especially if his athletic profile is lacking (this is postulation, we don’t have that information), it’s imperative for Willekes to become a technician. Effort will never be an issue.
