Kenny Stills responds to Brian Flores’ Jay-Z playlist by playing Nas in Dolphins locker room

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores had a peculiar response on Tuesday to wide receiver Kenny Stills’ critical comments about an NFL partnership with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Without explanation, he decided to play eight consecutive Jay-Z songs to start practice during the media-viewing window.

Though a Dolphins spokesperson told reporters that Stills was aware of the playlist plans ahead of time (not that informing Stills made the choice any less weird), the Dolphins receiver had his own response during Wednesday’s practice …

He blasted some Nas in the locker room.

For context: Jay-Z and Nas have had a longstanding beef that apparently goes back to 1996. Nas was supposed to collaborate with Jay-Z for a track on Reasonable Doubt, but he never showed up. The two have spent the subsequent 23 years dissing each other and strategically scheduling record releases to undermine each other’s sales.

With all that in mind, the music selection was a pretty epic rebuttal from Stills. Of course, his head coach needlessly started this musical drama, but at least Stills managed to come out ahead.
