Kenny Shiels to Falkirk? Northern Ireland Women's manager being linked with Scottish post

Northern Ireland Women's boss Kenny Shiels is being linked with the managerial position at Falkirk.

It follows the sacking of Ray McKinnon earlier this month, who left the club sitting fourth in Scottish League One.

Lee Miller and David McCracken have been placed in interim charge and beat Linlithgow Rose in the Scottish Cup in their debut at the weekend.

The pair could yet be handed the job on a permanent basis.

But now former Kilmarnock boss Shiels' name has been thrown in the hat.

Record Sport has reported that despite being fully committed to his current role as international women's manager, the 63-year-old would consider an offer from the Bairns.

And Shiels has gone on the record to insist Falkirk remain an attractive proposition despite languishing in Scottish football's third tier.

The former Derry City manager said: "Falkirk is a very good club. They're in a position they deserve to be well above, I see them as a Premiership club.

"At this moment in time I'm working with the Northern Ireland international team and it would be unfair of me to make any commitment that way at this moment.

"Who knows what might lie ahead, I still have a lot of respect for that club."

Shiels led Kilmarnock to League Cup glory in 2012, beating Celtic in the final to lift the trophy for the first time in the club's history.

He had a subsequent spell with Morton, his last role with a Scottish club.

Shiels went on to win the FAI Cup with Derry City, taking them into Europe twice, and was appointed Northern Ireland Women's manager in May this year.

The current Falkirk squad includes a number of players who have worked under Shiels in the past, including Cammy Bell, Conor Sammon and Lewis Toshney.
