Kenny Richey: Ex-Death Row Scot facing new trial for 'threatening man who prosecuted him'

Former Death Row prisoner Kenny Richey is due to face a new trial over claims he threatened a US prosecutor.

Edinburgh-born Richey, is alleged to have made threats towards Randall Basinger in a Facebook video last year.

Basinger was involved in the 1986 prosecution of ex-US marine Richey over the death of a two-year-old girl in a fire in Columbus Grove, Ohio.

Richey was sentenced to death for killing Cynthia Collins in the blaze.

He claimed it was a miscarriage of justice and was eventually freed in 2008 after entering a “no contest” plea to manslaughter, child endangering and breaking and entering.

The 55-year-old’s trial is due to start tomorrow at Putnam County Court, Ohio.

He also faces charges of violating a protection order and has been accused of tampering with evidence.

If convicted, Richey, of Columbus, Ohio, could be jailed for up to three years.

He was sentenced to three years in 2012 for leaving Basinger a phone message saying: “I’m coming to get you.”
