Kenny Miller throws hat in the Dunfermline ring as Rangers hero makes his case to replace Peter Grant

Former striker Kenny Miller has thrown his hat into the ring for the Dunfermline job after Peter Grant was giving his marching orders following a winless start to the season.

The Pars sit rock bottom of the Championship after 12 games in which they've failed to register a single victory.

Patience with former Celtic man Grant has run out, with Dunfermline confirming his departure on Sunday afternoon.

Miller had a brief spell as player-manager of Livingston, and has been working as an assistant in Australia with Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Now back in Scotland after leaving his role Down Under, the former Rangers man is looking for work and would jump at the chance to move to East End Park.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland Miller said: "It's one of those jobs you look at at that level, Dunfermline is a big club.

"You look at their stadium, it's a good stadium, the fans are clearly passionate about their club and they want them to be doing better than they are.

"It's a squad of players that I really believe could be doing better, so you never say never.

"I'm back, I'm interested in a job, I've missed my job in the last month or so that I've not been on the grass and don't want to be out of it too long.

"So it's one of them you'd look at and there'd definitely be an interest - and I won't be the only one.

"There will be a lot of people out there who will look at that job and think: 'you know what? You could get a response out of those players and start climbing the table'."

Brian Rice is an early frontrunner for the role after he left Hamilton earlier this season.
