Kenny Miller reveals his Rangers 'stop the rot' regret as he insists Steven Gerrard speculation is a good sign

Delighted Kenny Miller believes former team Rangers' impending Premiership title win proves the "tide is turning" in Scottish football.

And he insists it's more about "stopping the rot" than leaving Celtic crestfallen over missing out on 10 In A Row.

Gerrard's men are racing towards title glory and could become champions this weekend if they defeat St Mirren and the Hoops don't win against Dundee United at Tannadice.

Miller has been left seriously impressed by Rangers but admits he would have love to have been part of the team that ended their rivals dominance.

Speaking to Football Pass, he said: "For the club it's been a long time coming, it's been 10 years not just without a league title but it's been 10 years without a major trophy.

"To end that dominance Celtic have had over the past 10 years is really, really important with all the furore surrounding Nine In A Row and the potential 10 In A Row.

"That's the added bonus to stop that but getting that first title in 10 years is far more important, it stops the rot and hopefully it shows the tide is turning a little bit in Glasgow. "

Miller also had kind words for former team-mate James Tavernier with the pair pivotal members of the side that secure a return to the top flight back in 2016.

But the 41-year-old admits he would have loved to have stopped Celtic in their tracks when he was still starring for the Ibrox side.

He added: "I'm sure he'll say when he moved to Rangers he wanted to come at play a part in getting the club back to the top flight which he did.

"And as we got back to the top flight it was to end that dominance, I was still at the club at the time and that's a regret I've got that I never had the chance to finish the job off.

"He's been there now for five years now and he's going to get his hands on the title, it's been a long time coming, a big pressure, everything that goes along with playing for Rangers, being the captain - there is an added responsibility there to lead the team to a first major honour in 10 years.

"It will mean the world to him, it will be a relief but it will be a well earned title in the next couple of weeks."

Miller admits increasing speculation of a return to Liverpool sooner rather than later will have fans on edge but he insists it isn't bad news.

Jurgen Klopp's 'mentality monsters' are in the midst of a crisis of confidence and have lost five consecutive Premier League games at Anfield.

But Miller hopes the time is not now for Gerrard to leave Ibrox and return to his former club where he remains an icon.

He said: "That's the one job you hope he doesn't get the chance to get.

"That's one he would definitely need to think twice about not taking, put it that way.

"It's a good sign, if he's getting talked about in that kind of manner then it shows how good a job he has done for Rangers.

"We can't grudge that, it's always going to be there, I think there will be other teams who will probably be sniffing about after seeing the job he and his staff are doing and what they have built.

"Rangers fans wanted instant success but slowly and surely you have seen the team has come together and you see them growing together."
