Kenny Miller lifts lid on Rangers to Fiorentina transfer as collapse put down to mysterious figure

Kenny Miller has revealed he had every detail of a move to Serie A with Fiorentina agreed, only for the deal to heartbreakingly fall through at the last minute.

The Rangers striker was dreaming of plying his trade in the Italian top flight back in 2011 after Walter Smith accepted an offer in the January window.

When the transfer failed to come to fruition, Miller moved to Turkey with Bursaspor but his family failed to settle and he quickly headed back to the UK with Cardiff.

Miller explained that it was his performance for Scotland against Italy in 2006 that put him on the radar of Italian clubs after he tormented Ballon D'Or winner Fabio Cannavaro at Hampden.

He said: "That Italy game for me was massive, that led to actual interest in Italy from Roma.

"There was an opportunity, it never came to fruition but there was some talk. There was some real talk between my representatives and them.

"These kind of games, at that level, can really put you on a lot of people's radar.

"I had another opportunity to go to Fiorentina when I was leaving Rangers on a free in 2011, and it fell down at the last minute.

"Amo (Lorenzo Amoruso) was actually doing some work for them at the time, I spoke to him and pretty much everything had been agreed."

When host Simon Ferry jokingly suggested the mafia put the kibosh on the deal Miller was hesitant to answer in detail.

"I'd rather not go into it to be honest with you," he said, "I think it was one of your ex-managers (inaudible)."
