Kenny Miller insists Partick Thistle can be title contenders as he dismisses two-horse race claims

Classy Kenny Miller insists bottom-dogs Partick Thistle can still turn into title contenders – if they can hit form at Firhill.

The ex-Dundee hitman came back to haunt his old club as his 85th-minute equaliser sparked a late Jags rally with goals from subs Shea Gordon and Lewis Mansell winning it, after Paul McGowan had hit the opener.

Miller, 39, is sure Ian McCall’s men can surge up the table and rubbished talk of a two-horse Championship title race between Dundee and their city rivals United.

He said: “I would really disagree about it being a two-horse race. I think it would be disrespectful to other teams in the league. Dundee United are a good team and have signed some good players.

“But so have we, so have Dundee and so have Ayr.

“Inverness are always going to be there or thereabouts and Queen of the South are fourth now after a couple of good wins.

“I certainly don’t think the gulf is as big as what some people thought it would have been back at the start of the season.

“But we’re focusing on ourselves. We need to start climbing the table and getting points on the board at home, where we don’t have any.

“For me, a play-off place is the absolute minimum for us.

“We’re looking forward so need to start getting points on the board at Firhill, starting with Arbroath this weekend.”
