Kenny Miller in Jason Holt tribute ahead of Rangers exit as midfielder's 'murder to play against' qualities detailed

Kenny Miller has paid tribute to former team-mate Jason Holt as the midfielder prepares for an Ibrox departure.

Holt failed to break into Steven Gerrard’s plans and has spent the last two seasons on
loan at Fleetwood and
St Johnstone.

But Miller insists the two campaigns he played alongside the former Hearts man opened his eyes to the quality possessed by the 27-year-old.

He said: “He did a fantastic job for Rangers over that two-year spell.

“He’s one of the unsung heroes and the Rangers fans really took to him. He scored 12 or 13 goals in the year we were promoted and some big goals as well.

“He got two against Hibs on Boxing Day and that was a huge game.

“We were level on points going into it and we kicked on from there and won the Championship.

“Some of his qualities go unnoticed but when you play alongside Holty, he makes people around him play better.

“If you speak to an Andy Halliday, James Tavernier, Lee Wallace or Martyn Waghorn, they’ll say that Holty played a big part in helping them play.

“He’s a bundle of energy. He must have been murder to play against because off the ball he’s all over the opposition like a rash.

“It’s unfortunate he didn’t get a wee chance under Steven but Rangers were signing players and getting a bit of backing.”
