Kenny Miller hits out at Rangers treatment of Lee Wallace and believes old pal was ‘victimised’

Kenny Miller believes Lee Wallace was victimised in his final season at Rangers due to his disciplinarly dispute with the club.

Miller and Wallace were both suspended and fined by Light Blues chiefs following an alleged dressing-room bust-up with then caretaker boss Graeme Murty following a Scottish Cup semi-final rout by Celtic last year.

The duo later won SPFL appeals against the sanctions and while Miller left after his deal ended his former team-mate stayed at Ibrox for the final 12 months of his contract.

Wallace managed just 53 minutes of action under new boss Steven Gerrard last season before leaving earlier this month to hook up with his old Gers gaffer Mark Warburton at QPR.

But Miller – officially unveiled by Partick Thistle after signing a one-year deal – reckons Wallace should have been given much more game time for a Rangers side that finished the season trophyless.

Asked if his pal was a victim of what happened under Murty, the 39-year- old said: “Of course he was.

“I don’t know how things went, but I don’t think many would have felt Lee wasn’t good enough to play for that team.

“Lee is 31. I’ve absolutely no doubt he should have been playing last year. He should have been playing because not only was he the best left-back, I believe he was one of their best players. The team could have been better with him.

“He will be disappointed how it ended. He was fit for pretty much the majority of the season and raring
to go.”

Wallace was given the last three minutes of the third final home game of the season against Aberdeen with many fans unhappy he wasn’t given more of a send-off for the sacrifice he made in sticking by the club during their dark days in Scottish football’s bottom tier.

Miller said: “Personally I don’t know if he would have wanted it [a send-off]. He got his wee cameo and it gave the fans a chance to show appreciation for the service he had given the club right through the journey from the bottom back to the top.

“I know he is somebody who doesn’t look back, only forward. He will be looking forward to this season at QPR under a boss he has worked with and respects.

“It’s not about going down there and proving people wrong.”
