Kenny McLean in surgery limbo as Norwich midfielder could face five months on the sidelines

Scotland hero Kenny McLean faces an anxious wait to find out if he will miss up to five months of the season.

The Norwich City star suffered a meniscus injury during Saturday's Championship win over Middlebrough and could be sidelined indefinitely.

Concerned Canaries boss Daniel Farke admits the former Aberdeen star faces an anxious wait to see if he needs to under the knife.

The German said: "We scanned him this morning after he twisted his knee and he has a meniscus tear.

"We will wait for the injury to settle down and he will see a specialist this week. We will also handle this in a conservative way.

"He will be out for six weeks or if he needs surgery it could be four to five months."

McLean would be likely to miss Scotland's World Cup qualifying triple header in March if surgery was needed in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old has become a key player under Steve Clarke and followed up his winning penalty against Israel with a crucial spot kick conversion against Serbia.

McClean will be desperate to remain in the international set-up ahead of next summer's blockbuster return to a major tournament.
