SNP MP Kenny MacAskill has been slammed by Scotland's Health Secretary for his lockdown travels between his East Lothian constituency and a second home in Moray.
Jeane Freeman said there are “no exceptions” to the level four lockdown rules when was asked about two cross country trips the veteran Nationalist took in recent weeks.
Under current Scottish Government rules people are only allowed to travel if it is “absolutely necessary” but MacAskill, a former Scottish Justice Secretary, has defended travelling more than 200 miles to Dunbar twice by insisting both trips were for “medically-related appointments”.
Asked at the daily Scottish Government covid briefing if MacAskill had breached the rules, Freeman said: “There are no exceptions, no one’s exceptional and there are no exceptions to it.”
She added: “Only leave home for essential purposes, work from home if you can. My my view of that that is crystal clear. Everyone needs to comply with it. We’re asking the population of Scotland to do this, yet again, and they are, and I am hugely grateful to them for it.”
