Gabby Logan's tears as husband Kenny shares cancer diagnosis with BBC Breakfast viewers

Former Scottish rugby player Kenny Logan has revealed that he has been treated for prostate cancer after it was picked up during a health check. The 50-year-old told BBC Breakfast that he "stumbled across it by accident" after being urged by his wife Gabby to go and get checked.

Gabby was emotional as she joined her husband on the programme and spoke about the day he was diagnosed back in February.

She also urged others to get themselves checked out, telling anyone with concern to: "Book a blood test with the GP. Most of you will be fine, but some may have to go for further tests."

Kenny explained that after listening to an episode about getting health checks on your hormones, he decided to go for a test himself, an action he believed "could have saved his life".

"I was actually listening to one of the episodes about menopause," he told BBC Breakfast listeners. "About women and their hormones falling off a cliff. As I was going through this in my head, and I thought 'what about me', 'what is happening to me', and Gabby said that I should go and get checked.

"I went to get a wellness check and he said that everything was fine with my hormones but your prostate is high, your PSA is high so you should go and get checked. I had a biopsy, but this year on February 7 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was a huge shock."

He said he had an option to have chemotherapy or to take the prostate out, and he went for the second option.

"I had that operation three months ago, and I am 95% back to normal," he said. "It was hard because when you are told you have cancer I feel over as I had no symptoms whatsoever. I literally fell over, I didn't see it coming."

Wife Gabby said that before he went for the operation he had had no symptoms.

"He had no pain, he had no symptoms," she said. "We are very, very lucky that it was picked up."

They were speaking to BBC Breakfast following the death of former presenter Bill Turnbull from prostate cancer. He died aged 66 on August 31 after a "challenging and committed fight against prostate cancer".

The couple have also spoken about the shocking diagnosis in Gabby's podcast The Mid Point.

She said; "I want people to listen to it and to learn from it. It is what I would have wanted to listen to on February 8 after Kenny's diagnosis."

His final message was urging people to go and get checked, especially if you are over the age of 50.
