Kenny Jackett responds to Antoine Semenyo's Portsmouth accusation with message for Bristol City

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett insists that he does not mind his side being accused of being a "long-ball" team ahead of facing Bristol City this weekend.

The Pompey boss was speaking about the comments made earlier this week by City forward Antoine Semenyo, who suggested that the League One side may be likely to resort to playing long balls in the FA Cup third round tie at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Semenyo said: "[Portsmouth are] A physical team. They love a bit of long-ball football but we just have to live up to that, match them, be physical and play our football."

But defending his side, Jackett has pointed to Pompey's record in League One, with the Fratton Park side currently third in the table with 35 points from 19 games, having scored 32 goals and conceded 15 so far this season in the third tier.

"I don’t mind necessarily," he said, when asked by Hampshire Live about Semenyo's comments.

"We have got a good record this year of both winning games and scoring goals and ultimately, they are the two main things that you look at.

"We will be up there near the top of the goalscoring charts and we are well-positioned as well to hopefully go on and have a good second half of the season. We want to be able to capitalise on that."

As for what he expects at Ashton Gate on Sunday, Jackett is hopeful of a good game between two sides looking to try and make the fourth round of the competition.

"Ashton Gate is a big pitch, a very good pitch and I am sure it will be a cracking game, end to end," he added.
