Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay is in the final year of his rookie contract and during a virtual press conference with media on Monday, he reiterated he wants to be in Detroit and is hopeful a contract will get done before the regular season.
“No worry right now,” Golladay said in reference to his contract. “I can only control what I control. I want to be here. I’m just going to let my agent and the front office take care of that — I’m pretty sure something will get done.”
When asked to clarify if that meant he felt a contract would get done before the regular season (as is typical of the Lions), Golladay responded, “Hopefully”.
Recently, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Golladay should start getting mentioned in the same conversation as the Mike Thomas and DeAndre Hopkins’ of the NFL, illustrating how high the teams feel Golladay’s ceiling can be.
“I definitely agree,” Golladay said of the comparison. “Each year I want to keep going up and up and I want to build on last year. I feel like last year I built off the year before and I just want to keep improving. Being a better receiver, a better teammate.”
If Golladay’s game does continue to ascend, as most expect, he should be in line for a heavy new contract. My previous contract prediction called for an extension averaging somewhere between $17 and $18 million per season.
