Kenny Dalglish tells Celtic 'Rangers were always coming' as he fires new manager warning

Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has warned his old club to get their summer restructure right as there is no room for error against a resurgent Rangers.

Significant change is already underway at Parkhead, with CEO Peter Lawwell departing to be replaced by Dominic McKay.

A new manager will also be appointed to replace Neil Lennon, while the departure of head of recruitment Nick Hammond has cleared the way for an incoming sporting director.

Dalglish warns that Celtic can't afford to get any part of that process wrong, as they need the right man in both vacant positions.

He said on talkSPORT: "Whoever's making the decision over who's going to get the job, as long as they're happy that's it.

"That's the only person's opinion that matters.

"They've got a big close season, Celtic, they've appointed a new chief executive, they've got to get a new manager, they've got to get a new director of football.

"What do they go for first? The director of football or the manager?

"It's not easy, because there might be a guy who you fancy as a manager but the manager doesn't fancy who you're going to bring in as director of football.

Rangers are flying under Steven Gerrard (SNS Group)

"Whoever's coming in at Celtic is coming in against a much, much stronger Rangers team than what they were when Steven (Gerrard) took over.

"He took over three years ago and they were just readjusting.

"That punishment, getting relegated down to the third division, really took its toll on them but it worked to Celtic's advantage.

"Although Aberdeen were half-decent they weren't good enough to put Celtic to a real test.

"Rangers were always coming, even last year when they got beaten in the cup final, when (Christopher) Jullien scored from the free-kick and (Fraser) Forster saves a penalty.

"Rangers were on the up for three years, they just hit the pinnacle this year."

The Liverpool icon was also asked about the future of Odsonne Edouard.

Host Alan Brazil asked whether the France Under-21 international would be moving to a big Premier League club in the summer.

Dalglish replied: "I think it would depend how you define 'top clubs'.

"It depends, everybody's available at every club so if someone pays the right money he'll be moving on.

"But he's not had as good a year this year as what he had last year."
