Kenny Dalglish’s Rangers dig has Overlap audience in hysterics as Celtic legend unites Liverpool and Glasgow

Kenny Dalglish aimed a dig at Rangers and Everton as he compared Liverpool and Glasgow while appearing as a special guest on Gary Neville’s The Overlap Live Tour in Liverpool.

The Anfield and Scotland legend joined former Manchester United and England defender Neville, Jame Carragher and Roy Keane on stage for the YouTube sensation. And Dalglish had the audience roaring with laughter with one of his trademark one-liners when asked how he found Merseyside when he first moved from Celtic in 1977.

Dalglish quipped: "The city was brilliant. It's very similar to Glasgow; the shipyard, the humour, two teams in the city... one better than the other. I was fortunate that I played for the two good teams in both cities!”

The 72-year-old actually grew up a Rangers fan and returned some years later for a very brief spell in a scouting role. But Dalglish made his breakthrough at the Ibrox side’s fierce rivals where he earned legendary status. And he has previously said his allegiances didn’t matter. He said: "Football was more important than who you supported. They were the best team at that time, so it wasn’t a problem.”

Dalglish made 322 appearances in nine seasons and netted 167 goals during his time in the east end of Glasgow, winning four titles, four League Cups and one Scottish Cup, before moving to Anfield for a British record fee of £440,000 in 1977 and he went on to win multiple honours with the Reds both as a player and manager.
