Kenny Dalglish predicts 'something unexpected' from Rangers boss Steven Gerrard to catch Celtic cold

Scottish football icon Kenny Dalglish reckons Steven Gerrard will throw a "spanner in the works" in a bid to leave Celtic trophyless.

The 70-year-old former Parkhead star is certain the Rangers boss will leave nothing to chance as he looks to push for a Scottish Cup triumph to add to Premiership title glory.

Dalglish is a huge admirer of his fellow Liverpool legend and he is convinced Gerrard will mix things up on a day when the stakes couldn't be higher.

A victory for Rangers would further signal a changing of the guard in Scottish football but a win for Celtic would be a major blow for a side who haven't lifted this famous old trophy since 2009.

That's why Sir Kenny believes the 40-year-old will shake-up his formation in a bid to catch John Kennedy out.

Speaking to the Sunday Post , Dalglish said: "It wouldn't surprise me if Steven Gerrard has does something unexpected this afternoon.

"Sure, in the three Old Firm games this season, Rangers have won two and drawn the other.

"But the evidence from the game at Ibrox at New Year and last month's clash at Parkhead, suggested Celtic were very unlucky not win at least one of those Premiership clashes.

"However, they came up against a goalkeeper in Allan McGregor who was in outstanding form and pulled off three or four excellent saves.

"So Steven will know that he can't take victory for granted in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.

"That's why he might just throw a wee spanner in the works, and spring something that nobody was expecting, be it in terms of formation or his team selection.

"I don't have any inside information. Nobody has marked my card. It is purely a hunch.

"Steven has played 4-3-3 in in just about every game this season. It's a system that suits the players and it works extremely well.

"They are well-drilled and every player knows their job inside out.

"Might he go three at the back, with three in central midfield supported by wing-backs, and two up front?"
