Kenny Dalglish on the Steven Gerrard Rangers and Liverpool conspiracy theory that has everyone guessing

Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish has addressed the latest speculation over Steven Gerrard replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The German has previously endorsed the 39-year-old Ibrox boss as the perfect man to take the reins once he leaves the Reds.

And the potential managerial succession was a hot topic on Friday when both Gerrard and Klopp penned new deals on the same day with Rangers and Liverpool respectively.

With the pair locked down to 2024, supporters of both teams have set social media ablaze with theories the same-day announcements were more than just conincidence.

But Dalglish, who knows both men well, is adamant that isn't the case and he believes the high-pressure roles both have mean there's no time to think about the long-term future.

He told the Sunday Post: "Steven Gerrard signed a new contract that ties him to (Rangers) until 2024.

"It just so happened that Jurgen Klopp also signed an extension to tie him to Liverpool for the same period.

"But spare me the notion it all goes hand in hand for Steven to go to Anfield and replace Jurgen in five years' time.

"Listen, I know it's Christmas time and we all like a good fairy tale.

"However, nobody - including Jurgen, Steven, and me - can look five days into the future never mind four or five years.

"For anyone to suggest otherwise is putting two and two together and coming up with 222.

"So let's get back to reality."

Gerrard is adored by the Rangers fans and is on a high after leading the Ibrox side to the last 32 of the Europa League.

But the Champions League winner has always maintained that he will be judged on trophies as he aims to wrestle the title away from Celtic this season as he searches for his first silverware as a manager.
