Kenny Dalglish on the Rangers Euro instinct he just can't shake as Celtic icon insists 'never rule them out'

Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish insists you can "never rule out" Rangers in Europe as he tells the Scottish champions they have nothing to fear from any side left in the Europa League.

Gio van Bronckhorst's men despatched Red Star 3-0 in the first leg of their last 16 tie and need only avoid disaster in the Marakana to take their place in the last eight.

That's got some Rangers supporters looking ahead to the Europa League final in Seville as their heroes look to emulate the achievements of Walter Smith's 2008 team.

And while Dalglish wouldn't be looking out the passport just yet he insists the Premiership champions can beat anyone on their day.

He wrote in his Sunday Post column: "I expect Rangers to be in the draw for the quarter-final. It will be some achievement. I don’t think they should be afraid of any team.

"That doesn’t mean to say I expect them to get to the final.

"It’s in Seville on May 18 but I wouldn’t be encouraging any Rangers fans to book their flights and hotels just yet!

"However, we also know never to rule Rangers out when it comes to European football.

"Under Steven Gerrard they achieved some remarkable results and they are doing it again under Giovanni.

"But they need to put that to one side and focus on the Scottish Cup game away to Dundee today. That’s the priority, right now."
