Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish insists the actions of “a few” booze-fuelled fans on Rangers trophy takes nothing away from the historic achievement of Steven Gerrard’s men on the park.
Some shocking scenes followed the final home game of the season as locked-out light blue legions descended on Glasgow’s George Square after some walked from Ibrox Stadium.
The actions of the supporters were widely condemned but Scotland and Celtic legend Dalglish doesn’t believe it should overshadow the success of Gerrard and his players this season.
Rangers won their first title in a decade and the much-coveted 55th in the club’s history - a world record for top flight league championships.
And Dalglish, writing in the Sunday Post, said: “Success leads to celebration. Celebration leads to alcohol being taken. Alcohol consumption can lead to poor behaviour.
“That’s what happened with a few of the Rangers fans, and it led to people getting injured and acts of vandalism.
“It’s just not acceptable. Celebrating a title success should never be an excuse for mayhem.
“The scenes in and around Glasgow’s George Square were unfortunate and regrettable.
“It’s never pleasant to see some people behaving in such a manner. But it doesn’t take the shine away from what was achieved by the club on the park over the course of the campaign.

“Steven and his squad enjoyed their moment after they defeated Aberdeen 4-0 at Ibrox. It round off a brilliant nine months for them in the Premiership and in Europe, the only disappointment being that they never added a domestic cup to make it a double.”
Despite romping to the Scottish Premiership with a 25-point advantage over rivals Celtic, Dalglish knows they’ll be looking to strengthen in a bid to retain it.
He said: “Steven’s phone will still be red-hot, and he’ll still be working closely with the board and Ross Wilson on a daily basis.
“They will be determined to build on this season and keep the success going.”
