Kenny Dalglish hopes Sean Cox can enjoy Liverpool's Premier League win

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish hopes that Sean Cox can enjoy Liverpool's emphatic Premier League title triumph.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds bridged a 30-year gap last week as they sealed the title, and in a message to Cox, Dalglish reiterated his support of the Irishman.

The father of three sustained serious head injuries after he was attacked outside Anfield before a Champions League clash in April 2018.

After a huge fundraising appeal, the Dunboyne native returned home last March as he continues his rehabilitation.

Dalglish took part in a fundraising game between Liverpool and Ireland legends in the Aviva Stadium last year and also met Cox and his family.

"It was hugely unfortunate what happened to Sean," Dalglish told RTÉ 2fm’s Game On.

"It was a travesty. He only came to watch the match, went in for a pint and some idiot turned up, pre-meditated, pretty well organised by the Roma fans.

"The football club has always been good at contributing to fans and when we came over and played a (fundraising) game in Dublin for Sean, that was a great occasion for him and his family as well.

"It’s great to hear that he’s making a little move forward, he’s progressing slowly, but he is progressing and that’s the main thing.

"It’s also an illustration of how important the fans are to the football club. We don’t take them for granted, we treat them with respect.

"Nobody deserved what happened to Sean that night. You feel for the family and everybody else connected with [him].

"If the club can do a little bit to help then they will, playing the game helped pay for some of Sean’s treatment that he is going to have to endure throughout the years.

"So, fingers crossed, that it's successful and [we're] just grateful for the support we’ve had from him in the past, and I’m sure we’ll continue to have, and I hope he can enjoy [the success]."
