Kenny Dalglish and Hillsborough campaigner in emotional embrace on day Liverpool honours the 96

Players and fans fell silent at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium yesterday remembering the 1989 Hillsborough disaster which claimed 96 lives.

The club paid tribute before their game against Chelsea with supporters revealing “96” and “30 years” mosaics.

On an emotional day, ­Hillsborough campaigner Margaret Aspinall hugged Sir Kenny Dalglish after ­Liverpool scored.

The chairwoman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, who lost her 18-year-old son James in the tragedy, celebrated Mo Salah’s strike in the 2-0 victory with the former Anfield boss and Scotland legend.

Today, exactly 30 years since the disaster, the city of Liverpool will come to a ­standstill at 3.06pm – the time the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest was stopped in Sheffield.

Flags will be at half mast and a minute-long silence will be held. Bells will chime 96 times in memory of those killed by the crush and mayor Joe Anderson said the city would “stand together in solidarity”.

Liverpool players and staff will mark the silence, and ­families and survivors will gather for a memorial at Anfield.

This year, ex-Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield stood trial for gross negligence manslaughter but the jury failed to reach a verdict.
