Kenny Clark excited about offseason of Packers DL Montravius Adams

Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark highlighted fellow defensive lineman Montravius Adams as one of the team’s offseason standouts.

Asked by Andy Herman of CheeseheadTV to provide a defensive player who stood out during OTAs and minicamp, Clark quickly mentioned Adams, the Packers’ third-year interior defender.

“On defense, I’ll say Montravius. I think he had a really good OTAs,” Clark said. “I think he has a really good understanding of what’s going on, and his mentality and how he’s been going about things and the work he’s been putting in. I’m excited to see how he does this year.”

It’s a big year for Adams after playing 212 snaps during his second NFL season. A strong offseason could put him position to make a big jump in 2019.

The Packers used the 93rd overall pick in the 2017 draft on Adams, believing the athletic, 6-4 lineman capable of providing another disruptive piece for the front of the Packers defense.

After showing flashes during each of his first two seasons, Adams might be ready to break out as something more than a role player in his third year.

Packers defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery can see the progress stacking year after year.

“He was a lot different player last year than he was the year before, so he’s taking the right steps,” Montgomery said during OTAs in May. “The guy came back in tremendous shape, he looks a lot different body-wise than he did a year ago. He’s working every day. Is he there? No, but neither is anybody else this time of year. But he’s a lot further along today than he was last year at this time.”

A big step from Adams in 2019 could provide the finishing touch for the Packers defensive line. He’ll likely play a secondary role behind Clark and Mike Daniels, but Adams, Dean Lowry, Tyler Lancaster, Fadol Brown and rookie Kingsley Keke help create the possibility of a deep, talented front. And Adams’ development will likely affect the Packers’ decision-making process on Daniels, who is entering the final year of his contract.

If his work this offseason is any indication, Adams is inching closer to establishing himself as a contributing member of the Packers’ defensive line rotation.
