Kenneth Faried to return from knee soreness against Spurs

Rockets big man Kenneth Faried will return to Houston’s rotation against the San Antonio Spurs tonight after being out with knee soreness Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. Houston is making an effort to preserve their players down the stretch while trying to maintain their third seed and Faried is someone who’s gotten some quality rest time in the process.

“This is all the quirk of unproven science,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said when asked about resting players. “But, if guys need rest — if they’re aware of it and want to do it — that’s what we’re gonna do.”

The Rockets are also in the process of experimenting with rotations down the stretch of the season so it will be quite common to see players out with various minor ailments or rest in this closing run. Some nights Houston may rest Nene in favor of Faried and vise-versa.

“I don’t want to experiment too much,” said D’Antoni pregame Friday. “We got to win, but to you got to check certain boxes off and stuff and just try to get as good as we can.”
