Kenneth Faried out with hip contusion against Mavericks

Houston Rockets forward Kenneth Faried will miss Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks with a left hip contusion.

Faried has missed the last four games with the injury and the Rockets have had to make due without him. Faried injured his hip trying to draw a charge in Charlotte and it’s taken him a while to come back.

“It was a blocking foul. It happened between me and Miles Bridges,” he said at practice March 2nd. “It’s in a weird spot. It’s closer to my hip.”

Rockets center Clint Capela returned to the lineup from right thumb surgery after the All-Star break and Houston has gone 7-1 since.

Faried filled an important role to Houston’s offense in Capela’s absence, averaging 14.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks on an impressive 63.5% true shooting. It shouldn’t take much longer for Faried to return to the lineup.

In the meantime, the Rockets did recall center Isaiah Hartenstein on Saturday to help fill in at backup center until Faried returns. It’ll be interesting to see what Houston looks like at full strength with Faried in the lineup.
