Kenji Gorre reveals his Celtic transfer near miss as former Manchester United kid details his life less ordinary

Former Manchester United academy star Kenji Gorre has lifted the lid on his transfer near miss with Premiership champions Celtic.

The winger arrived in Glasgow as an 18-year-old back in 2013 aiming to win a deal but a Parkhead switch didn't materialise before moving to Swansea.

But Dutchman Gorre, once regarded as one of the Netherland's best young players, struggled to make an impact in South Wales before heading to Portugal with Nacional in 2018.

And now the 25-year-old, reflecting on his Celtic trial, claims he was offered a deal with Neil Lennon's side before he made the call to join Michael Laudrup in the Premier League.

Speaking to Wales Online, he said: “I actually went to Celtic for a couple of days. Neil Lennon wanted to see me and wanted to see me play. He called me straight away and that was actually a good experience.

“Then Swansea called and they offered me a two-year deal. They’d obviously heard of me and obviously done their research. They maybe saw me play when I was up at Celtic. I actually don’t know. But they were really intrigued and really happy.

Celtic also wanted to sign me permanently and I had a couple of other offers, but Swansea were the only ones to really put their paper where their mouth was.”

Hoops boss Lennon spoke about him at the time and viewed the wide man's efforts as "ok."

Gorre was with second-tier Estoril on loan before the game was locked down amid the coronavirus outbreak.
