Retired NBA champion center with the 2008 Boston Celtics, Kendrick Perkins played through a time of transformation in the league — both on the court (the league’s move away from center-focused offense and toward small-ball lineups) and off it (how the players these days are “controlling their own destiny” in free agency).
During a recent appearance on Adrian Wojnarowski’s Woj Pod, Perkins discussed a range of topics, including whether he believes the Golden State Warriors can three-peat for the NBA championship.
In a word, “Yes.”
“If the Warriors are healthy, it’s gonna be hard to beat ’em,” Perkins said.
But that doesn’t mean the Warriors won’t be challenged, or that a three-peat of the title is a given. In Perkins’ view, the biggest obstacle between the Warriors and their third-straight Larry O’Brien trophy — and fourth in five years — is the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets are pretty damn good … The way that James [Harden] is playing, and [the Rockets] also have the best center in the league, in my opinion, in Clint Capela.
I love what Clint brings to the table. He finishes around the rim … (around the pocket pass) he’s making moves and getting to the basket … helluva shot blocker … helluva rebounder … he runs the floor like no other.
But Perkins expressed concerns about DeMarcus Cousins, who he says “just hasn’t looked healthy.”
