Kendrick Norton will have medical bills paid by Dolphins and NFL

Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Kendrick Norton still has a very difficult path ahead of him. After losing his arm in an automobile accident last week, Norton’s playing days in the NFL are over and he’s going to have to make a transition after the tragedy last week that stunned the South Florida community. But so much of what lies ahead for Norton is still on the horizon. And thankfully, the next few months have become a lot easier for Norton and his family.

After a “GoFundMe” page was set up in hopes of raising funds for Norton’s medical expenses over the weekend, Norton’s agent Malki Kawa announced that the NFL and the Miami Dolphins and their insurance policies — not donations — would be paying all of Norton’s medical expenses. Yesterday Norton was undergoing his fourth surgical procedure since the accident and is facing an estimated six total surgeries as a part of the recovery process.

The peace of mind that comes with knowing that the Norton family isn’t going to foot a massive medical bill surely helps in a traumatic time like this. And for the Dolphins themselves, they have the opportunity to help even more, as ESPN’s Dolphins beat writer Cameron Wolfe points out. Norton has big changes ahead in his life — the Dolphins not parting ways with Norton but rather designating him onto the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, would not only be a kind gesture but could allow the Dolphins to pay Norton some or all of his scheduled salary.

Norton was scheduled to make just short of $500k this season had he been on the 53-man roster for the Dolphins’ entire 2019 schedule.
