Kendall Jenner encourages women to vote

Kendall Jenner has given a mini history lesson of the US-suffragette movement in an attempt to encourage women to vote in next year’s presidential election.

The model has joined forces with Rock the Vote and the Independent Journal in a new video.

In the video, Jenner – while dressed up in clothing typical of the 1900s – says that voting “hasn’t always been that easy, especially for women”.

Jenner runs down notable moments of the votes for women campaign, culminating in the Nineteenth Amendment passing in 1920. She concludes: “because of suffragettes and their battle, gender doesn’t matter but your vote always can”.

The Independent Journal highlighted the 19-year-old's social media presence and potential influence, citing that she has “more Instagram followers than all the candidates combined” and “more than double the Twitter followers of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump”.

They wrote: “For all the attention the 2016 election has received so far – from household-name candidates and record-breaking debate ratings – the presidential contenders still don’t have the same reach as the Jenner/Kardashian clan."

Jenner has previously not been associated with political activism, however her brother-in-law Kanye West recently announced plans to run for president in 2020.

West’s wife Kim endorsed Hillary Clinton for President last month, posting a selfie of herself and West with the former Secretary of State.
