Unmissable show?
The Walking Dead. The writing, the performances, the cliffhangers… it’s so compelling. It’s not even about splatter and gore, it’s about the dynamics of man against this new backdrop, good versus evil operating on a whole other level. I’d be honoured to be a zombie hanging off the prison fence. I should put myself on audition tape for that.
Bring back…
Firefly. They did bring it back as a movie but I’d just love to see it continue, either in movie or TV form. That show never got its due. It wasn’t even ahead of its time, it was just great TV. Nathan Fillion shoots Castle next door to Community and I just turn into a Firefly fanboy whenever I see him. He’s so proud of that show.
Mastermind specialist subject…
The Office – the BBC version. I know that show inside out. I probably booked my guest role on the second season of the US Office by being one of the few people in the audition who knew the tone, because at that point the original wasn’t well known. I threw some improvised looks down the barrel of the camera. People think of my acting as over the top but I never underperformed as much as I did while auditioning for the US Office.
TV turn-off?
I don’t do a lot of channel surfing so I don’t see something and think: “I have to change this.” Now we’re online, it’s all appointment TV. I’m not the sort of person to hate something anyway. If it’s good, it’s good, no matter what the genre.
Pitch us a TV show…
I play a down-on-his-luck IT guy who is a fish out of water in the UK. He’s selling cars for a living, and he hates it but he’s good at it. There’s a very attractive sales lady who is great at selling Range Rovers and they have this chemistry, but she’s dating the boss, who he hates. Call it Ken’s Travails. Sign it up. I’ll even give the Guardian co-creator credit on it. But I’m not going to develop the idea any further until you pay me some pounds.
