“Jeopardy!” champion Ken Jennings will be the first in a series of interim guest hosts on the game show.
Producers announced Monday that production will resume Nov. 30 for the first episodes made after the death of longtime host Alex Trebek.
A series of interim hosts “from within the ‘Jeopardy!’ family” will front the show during the search for Trebek’s successor, a statement from producers said. Other interim hosts will be announced later.
Jennings, who first competed on “Jeopardy!” in 2004, won its “Greatest of All Time” tournament in January, defeating James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter. He also holds the all-time records for most consecutive games won (74) and highest winnings in regular-season play ($2,520,700).
“We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues,” executive producer Mike Richards said. “By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”
Jennings’ episodes will begin airing Jan. 11. “Jeopardy!” will present reruns of some classic Trebek episodes Dec. 21-28, with his final episodes airing the week of Jan. 4.
Trebek, who had advanced pancreatic cancer, died Nov. 8 at his Los Angeles home.
