Ken Barlow's lavish retirement home as he leaves Corrie behind after remarkable 60 years

Coronation Street icon Bill Roache left fans with both a sense of gratitude for his service to the soap, but also a sadness that his character Ken Barlow would be moving from the Cobbles.

While he's had some tear-jerking and heard-hitting story lines in the last few years, Ken's decided it's time to move - to a luxury retirement village.

Fan-favourite Ken, who's the only original character remaining from the 1960 pilot, made waves earlier this month with the announcement that he would not be calling Weatherfield home any longer.

Instead, he would be upping sticks to Still Waters retirement village.

New images show 87 year old Bill filming at Colshaw Hall Country estate - a lavish, rustic-looking home surrounded by beautiful gardens.

A long driveway leads up to the main house, where guests can park their cars under the cover of trees.

The snaps also show Malcolm Hebden's Norris and Rula Lenska's Claudia, who will also be moving there.

It's a 300 acre estate in which guests can hold events and even get hitched - at a hefty price somewhere between £3,500 and £12,000.

It also boasts it own cocktail bar, as well as a book club and fencing classes.

Bill's been very candid - and just as emotional - about ken's decision to leave the Cobbles.

Having filmed a final, reminiscent scene in Weatherfield, Bill said: "Filming that final scene of the episode was very poignant, just Ken and Eccles and the Cobbles.

"He breaks the news to the family next week and they are surprised but very soon Peter and Tracy start squabbling over who will be given first refusal on the house.

CORONATION FANS IN SHOCK OVER KEN BARLOW EXIT

"We have already started filming at the retirement complex and I am really enjoying it, it always feels different when we film away from the street.

"It seems fitting that Ken makes this decision in the 10,000th episode but it will be strange not filming in number 1 after all this time."
