Kempton King George result: Willie Mullins-trained Tornado Flyer is shock 28-1 winner

Tornado Flyer was a shock 28-1 winner of the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton.

The outsider, trained by Willie Mullins, profited as front runners Frodon and Minella Indo went too fast.

Patiently ridden by Danny Mullins, who had earlier celebrated his first success at the track, Tornado Flyer finished with a flourish.

Dual winner Clan Des Obeaux (7-2) ran boldly again for the Paul Nicholls team, but the winner powered clear to win by nine lengths.

The same trainer's Saint Calvados (25-1) was third and stablemate Frodon finished fourth.

Asterion Forlonge, Mullins' top contender for the Grade 1 in the betting, was in second place when he fell at the final fence.

Jockey Mullins, who struck on Jacamar in the opener, said: "When you're riding for Willie [Mullins, trainer] you've always got a chance, no matter what price they are.

"They're always there with a right chance. 2021 has been a fantastic year for me, I've had multiple winners at the big festivals, a Cheltenham Festival winner, to cap it off with a King George is great.

"It's one of the races of the season."

Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo was beaten a long way out after trying to force the early pace, while Chantry House, sent off the 3-1 favourite, was pulled up by Nico de Boinville.

Earlier on the card, the rider got the tactics spot on aboard Epatante (4-5f) in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle.

Nicky Henderson's mare dead-heated with Not So Sleepy last time, but comprehensively turned the form around.

Repeating her 2019 success, the seven-year-old travelled best up the straight and came clear by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

De Boinville said: “She felt superb then on ground that might be softer here than usual. It didn’t quite go to plan as I wasn’t supposed to be upsides and I’m delighted – onwards and upwards.”

Bravemansgave (6-5) impressed in the Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices' Chase.

Key rival Ahor Senor overtook his main rival in the betting – but could not repel Paul Nicholls' charge.

Bravemansgame galloped clear from the penultimate fence to record a seven-and-a-half length triumph.

"The horse has done the taking for us today," said Nicholls.

"It was soft enough for him here and it was a mighty performance. He's awesome and is only going to get better when he gets stronger. He's a mighty horse and next year's King George is the target."
