After 12 years in the NBA, Kemba Walker is going overseas to play for AS Monaco in the Euroleague. The point guard made four NBA All-Star games in his career, but he has played in just 46 games over the past two years while battling injuries.
While Walker is on just a one-year deal with Monaco, the veteran said he isn’t sure if he will eventually return to the NBA.
“I’m not certain. I mean, the NBA is obviously the main goal, but I’ve played there for many years,” Walker said, via EuroHoops.net. “For now, I’m solely focused on my new adventure, this experience that awaits me with the new life I’m going to have. I’m so excited and eager to seize this opportunity in Monaco. I can’t wait to explore the city and meet the people, my teammates, the staff, and everything surrounding the club. We’re going to have some great moments. Can’t wait for it to begin”
Monaco is coming off a title in the LNB Pro A league, along with a final-four appearance in the EuroLeague. Walker said that he’s excited to join a team that has a legitimate chance to win.
As for his injuries, Walker mentioned that he wants to keep playing until he "can't anymore."
“I love this game so much that I don’t want to give it up just yet,” Walker said. “I don’t think my time is up yet. I want to continue until I can’t anymore. Have fun, enjoy it, and be surrounded by great people. I’m looking forward to this opportunity in Monaco, and I want to help build something.”
From 2015 until ’20, Walker averaged at least 20 points per game in each season, but has averaged career lows in that category in back-to-back years in the NBA.
