Kemar Roofe signs for Rangers as Steven Gerrard finds his new striker

English striker Kemar Roofe has signed for Rangers from Belgian side Anderlecht.

The former Leeds United man joins the Ibrox club on a four-year deal.

He scored seven times in 16 appearances for the Brussels club before the Belgian Pro League was ended early due to coronavirus.

Belgian media had suggested on Tuesday morning that Roofe was on his way to Glasgow, and he has now completed his move.

A Rangers statement said: "Rangers are delighted to confirm Kemar Roofe has joined the club on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee."

His arrival comes at a time Steven Gerrard is in need of fresh blood up front after a pre-season injury to Jermain Defoe and the speculation over Alfredo Morelos' future.

Roofe began his career at West Brom but made a name for himself at Oxford United.

From there he won a big move to Elland Road where he scored 29 times in his final two seasons before moving to Belgium.

Gerrard had made no secret of his desire to find a new striker and after the win over Aberdeen on opening day he insisted he was due a new goalscorer.

He said: "There are many other names out there, but I can't control that.

"We can't go much longer with just one fit forward. I want one in yesterday."
