Kemar Roofe's Rangers absence explained as Steven Gerrard admits striker blow

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed Kemar Roofe misses out against Dundee United due to a family issue.

The Englishman was expected to return to the squad after missing out against Malmo through suspension but was a surprise absentee from the team sheet.

And Gerrard admits that it is a blow to him at a time where he's also missing Ianis Hagi through injury but he has been able to welcome Alfredo Morelos back into the starting XI.

The Colombian has been training in isolation before joining up with the rest of the Rangers squad over the last couple of days and goes straight into the team.

And Gerrard insists he is fitter than people might have thought as he admitted he's had a mixed week in terms of injuries and absences.

He told Sky Sports: “We have had mixed news in terms of availability. It is great to have Alfredo back. He has trained so well over the last couple of days and we managed to get some work done with him when he was in isolation, using the car park and a bike in his room. So he is not as rusty as people will think, so he is a welcome inclusion.

“Unfortunately Kemar Roofe dropped out last minute, he has got a family issue he is dealing with and we give him the full support on that and unfortunately Hagi did not pull through for us, hopefully he has a chance for Tuesday.”
