Kemar Roofe offers Rangers penalty mindset insight as he details 'routine' for high pressure moments

Kemar Roofe says it was a dream come true to net Rangers ’ winner in front of the travelling Light Blues legions.

The Ibrox striker climbed off the bench to stroke home a late penalty against Hibs on Wednesday night as he sealed a 1-0 win in Leith.

The goal sparked wild celebrations in the away end and Roofe was just pleased he could send them home happy.

Asked what was going through his mind as he stepped up for the vital spot-kick, the Jamaica international said: “Just don’t think about it!

"Just concentrate on my routine for my penalties and hope that it goes in the back of the net.

“I was picturing it in my head when I was warming up.

“If I came on in the second half, I was going to be shooting in front of our fans. It was good to get a goal.

“It was good to get back on the pitch first and foremost and then obviously to help the team win the game. We fought hard before I came on and me, Scott Arfield and John Lundstram managed to help get us over the line.”

Injury meant Roofe sat out Gers’ Premier Sports Cup defeat to Hibs last month plus new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst ’s first two games in charge against Sparta Prague and Livingston.

But he returned to make it a hat-trick of wins for the Dutchman in Edinburgh.

He said: “We have played three games and we have got three wins. It is a very positive start and it is going in the right direction.

“I missed two games and could maybe have pushed for the third. But it was better off just keeping it sensible and it has paid off.”
