Kemar Roofe issues injury update as Leeds striker nears end of recovery

Kemar Roofe is ready to return to full training and give Leeds’ promotion push a timely boost.

Roofe is nearing the end of his recovery from the knee ligaments injury which has sidelined him for seven weeks.

Leeds’ 14-goal top scorer has been working with the physios at Thorp Arch and says he will soon resume training with the rest of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

“It’s positive now,” said Roofe. “We’re outside now doing a bit of ball work, turning, sprinting, some more game realistic exercises.

“The previous week it was more straight line running just to keep the knee straight. But now the knee’s at a good strength so we can move about.

"Obviously we’re footballers so we want to be out on the grass as much as possible and this is the stage where I can see the finish line to get back with the team training. This is the next stage to complete and then I can train.”

Leeds fans will be delighted that Roofe will soon be back and they have slipped out of the two automatic promotion places since he was injured on February 13 against Swansea City.

Roofe, 26, admits it has been tough watching from the stands and says his recovery has been carefully managed to avoid any setbacks.

“Yes, it’s frustrating not being out there, but it’s also nice watching the boys at work, showing a good performance,” he told LUTV.

“You’re not outside doing what you usually do every day so your muscles will lose strength and that’s not just the muscle you’ve injured, it’s everywhere in your body.

“You need to maintain that so when you do go back out, you’re not pulling anything or getting anything tight or any tweaks to prevent you from kicking on again.”
