Kemar Roofe goal: Watch Rangers star score from inside his own half in Europa League win

Kemar Roofe was the talk of football Twitter on Thursday night after scoring a sensational goal from inside his own half for Rangers against Standard Liege.

Heading into the final minute of second-half stoppage time, the in-form Scottish Premiership leaders led their opening Europa League Group D encounter 1-0 at the Stade de Sclessin in Belgium thanks to James Tavernier's early penalty.

It was then that former Leeds United star Roofe produced a moment of magic, shielding the ball brilliantly and demonstrating great strength and skill to work his way past three opponents before spotting that Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart had strayed forward off his line.

The 27-year-old - a summer signing from Liege's Belgian top-flight rivals Anderlecht - then showed tremendous audacity to try his luck with a long-range effort from just inside the halfway line that had a red-faced Bodart back-pedalling and unsuccessfully striving to tip over the crossbar.

Roofe was mobbed by his team-mates after scoring what, according to Opta Sports, is the longest goal ever scored in Europa League competition at 54.6 yards.
