Kemar Roofe faces Rangers ban waiting game as SFA hearing over St Johnstone tackle charge delayed

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe faces a further wait to learn if he'll be suspended for a tackle in the match against St Johnstone after his SFA hearing was delayed by 24 hours.

The English striker was pulled up by a three-person disciplinary panel after a challenge on midfielder Murray Davidson on the stretch in the first half of Wednesday's match at home to the Saints.

That tackle was deemed worthy of a yellow card at the time by referee David Munro but has prompted further action from the governing body.

Roofe was served with a notice of complaint two days later, setting up an initial fast-track hearing for Tuesday.

But that has now been put back to Wednesday according to the SFA's disciplinary procedures page, just a day after the exact same sequence in the case of Albian Ajeti at Celtic who copped a diving charge for his actions against Kilmarnock the day before Roofe's incident.

Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard believed there was little intent behind Roofe's actions and confirmed the club would be appealing the charge after "analysing the situation".

If he does receive a two-match ban then Rangers will be without two of their most capable attackers for their next match against Tommy Wright's Kilmarnock, with Alfredo Morelos serving the last match of his three-game ban in that encounter too.

Morelos was pulled up for a stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous and his club opted not to appeal on that occasion.

Rangers slammed the SFA's disciplinary process last week as Gerrard called for "consistency" in outcomes.
