Kemar Roofe earns international recognition but Rangers star’s debut doesn’t go to plan

Rangers star Kemar Roofe made his international debut for Jamiaca on Sunday night but it didn't go exactly to plan for the frontman.

Roofe was one of a number of a debutants in the team with Brentford centre back Ethan Pinnock, Reading defender Liam Moore and West Ham striker Michail Antonio also included for the first time.

But despite having a squad that filled with talent playing in the English Premier League and Championship, including former Ibrox target Daniel Johnson, ex-Manchester United wonderkid Ravel Morrison and Fulham's Bobby Reid, Jamaica crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Panama.

The Caribbean side sit bottom of the Concacaf qualifying group after also being beaten by Mexico in the opening game of the campaign.

It leaves them needing a huge turnaround in fortunes if they are to make the World Cup in Qatar next year and Jamaica had approached a number of English born players to boost their chances.

Roofe almost opened the scoring early on when the Rangers attacker 'elegantly swivelled' on the edge of the area before just firing over.

But that was as good as it got for the Reggae Boyz as goals from Andres Andrade, Rolando Blackburn and Cecilo Waterman earned Panama the three points.

Roofe joined Rangers last summer and was a key part of Steven Gerrard's squad as they won the league, and has already got three goals in four appearances so far this season.
