Kemar Roofe could face Rangers ban as SFA charge striker for Murray Davidson challenge

Kemar Roofe could face a ban as the SFA charged the Rangers striker for his high challenge on Murray Davidson.

The Englishman received a yellow card for his late tackle on the St Johnstone midfielder during the 1-0 win at Ibrox in midweek.

But the governing body examined the footage retrospectively and hit Roofe with a notice of complaint for serious foul play after deeming the collision to be dangerous.

Steven Gerrard confirmed the decision at his press conference on Friday as Rangers now face an anxious wait whether he will be suspended or not.

He said: "I haven't thought that much of it because the referee dealt with it. He was five yards away and he has seen the incident and gave the yellow card.

"We've had this decision thrust upon us. We've got until end of play Monday to decide what to do and we'll take our time and decide."

A fast track hearing will take place on Tuesday, February 9.

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson defended Roofe's actions at full-time and insisted there was no malice in the challenge by the Rangers forward.

He said: "It’s one of those, I don’t think there was any malice in the challenge, but it doesn’t look great.

“TV pictures will slow it down and make it look worse than it is."
