Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford reflect on Australia trip with message to fans

Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford have paid their tributes to the travelling Leeds United fans for their support during their pre-season tour of Australia.

The Whites were backed by thousands of supporters for their trip Down Under ahead of their matches against Manchester United and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The select 16-man squad fell to a 4-0 defeat to the Red Devils, their first meeting since 2011, before Pablo Hernandez’s 94-minute winner secured a 2-1 win against WSW.

Having returned to England on Monday, the team are set to fly out again, this time to Italy as United take on Serie A side Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena.

The Whites are also due to take on recently-relegated Spanish Segunda Division side Girona, meaning Marcelo Bielsa will once again split his squad for the two fixtures.

Leeds are then back in Championship action against Bristol City, where they will be roared on by a sold-out crowd at Ashton Gate on August 4.

Having returned from Australia, attacking duo Roofe and Bamford were quick to thank fans for their support during the trip.

Writing on his Instagram account, Bamford said: “Thank you to everyone who supported us out in Australia, it’s been a great experience. Happy to be back home and continue our work #mot”

His partner in crime, Roofe, who limped out of the final match against WSW after under an hour, was quick to follow in posting his appreciation to the supporters.

Again, writing on Instagram, he said: “Football gives you opportunities to experience things that you wouldn't normally get chance too. This trip was one of them #Australia #Preseason”

Whilst this was a fantastic opportunity for supporters to make life-long memories, as so many did, it appears this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the players as well.
