'Kelvingrove Park should be a safe space' - Glasgow police warn against drinking in public

A Glasgow police inspector has warned people against drinking in public as he says 'Kelvingrove Park should be a safe space'.

Police say they have recently witnessed an increase in antisocial behavior in the west end park, 'often fuelled by alcohol'

Area Inspector Paul Daley hit out at 'a minority' for their 'unacceptable' actions, and reemphasised Glasgow City Council bylaws which forbid anyone drinking alcohol in Glasgow's parks.

Earlier on Saturday he commented: "Kelvingrove Park should be a safe space for everyone, however, recently, we have seen an increase in antisocial behaviour, caused by a minority of people. This is often fuelled by alcohol, and this is simply not acceptable. I would like to remind people that Glasgow City Council bylaws prohibit the drinking of alcohol in the park. Officers will be patrolling this weekend to deal with any antisocial behaviour.

"I would also appeal to parents to know where their children are this weekend, who they are with and what they are doing.

"To premises selling alcohol, please be mindful of who you are selling it to.

"Let's all work together to keep Kelvingrove Park safe and welcoming for all."
