Kelvingrove Park: No arrests after police break up large crowds gathering

Police were called to Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park to disperse large crowds with the current 'stay at home' lockdown restrictions on outdoor gatherings still in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As we reported earlier, mild temperatures and sunny weather attracted scores to the west end park, with eyewitness reports advising Glasgow Live that large groups have gathered on the hotspot's most popular hill.

Pictures of the mobbed park were widely shared on social media, with many pointing to the ‘stay at home’ restrictions still in place.

Police confirm that officers attended the park after being alerted to the gathering around 4:30pm this afternoon.

A video taken by a member of the public in the park shows a number of police in attendance both on foot and on off-road bikes.

No arrests were made and no-one has been issued with a fixed penalty notice, and officers will continue to patrol the area.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 17 March, 2021, police received a report of a large crowd gathering within Kelvingrove Park. Officers are in attendance and are engaging with the members of the public. Those involved are heeding the police’s advice and are dispersing.

"There have been no arrests and no-one has been issued with a fixed penalty notice. Officers will continue to patrol the area."
