Kelvinbridge police incident stood down after search for body in water

Police have stood down after a major search operation at Kelvinbridge yesterday.

Emergency services including police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service were called to the west end at 1.20pm (Tuesday), after a report of a body floating in the River Kelvin.

However, officers have this morning (Wednesday) confirmed the search has ended, with nobody recovered from the river.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "There was nobody recovered from the river and the incident was stood down."

Rescue boats were seen on the river and search helicopters spotted overhead yesterday afternoon, after emergency services were scrambled to Great Western Road, close to the Kelvinbridge subway station.

Police yesterday confirmed during the incident: "“About 1.20pm today, police received a report of what a person thought was a body floating in the River Kelvin.

“Police are attendance and waiting for the fire service to attend.

“At this time, no body has been recovered."
