Kelvin Harmon could be Colts answer at wide receiver

With the 2019 NFL Draft creeping its way toward arrival, many are wondering if the Indianapolis Colts will use one of their early picks at the wide receiver position, which is a massive need. Should they do so, Kelvin Harmon could be the answer they are searching for.

If the Colts were to use an early pick at wide receiver, that prospect would have to become an immediate starter opposite T.Y. Hilton with the ability to dominate every snap and eventually become the team’s top option.

Harmon, who projects as a selection in the first two rounds of the draft, believes he has the skill set to be the top wide receiver in this year’s class.

“Ultimately, it’s my ball skills and the way I play, my mentality, how I go get the ball,” Harmon told the media at the NFL combine. “Those 50-50 balls are normally 90-10 balls my way and if I don’t catch it, it’s not going to be an interception.”

Harmon has the skill set to be an X-receiver on a team in any scheme. His ability to beat press coverage with footwork and strong hand usage allow him to find separation early in his release. He’s not the fastest twitch receiver in the draft, but he accelerates well for his size and has the chops to outmatch any defensive back on a jump ball.

Harmon also possesses a strong ability to catch the ball away from his body and while he isn’t the most elusive receiver after the catch, he’s a smooth runner that finds ways to get the job done.

The NC State product fits perfectly into the mentality of the Colts offense. His motor is running hot at all times, and he’s never taking lazy routes even when he’s not targeted. A dominant run blocker as well, Harmon is quite possibly the best all-around receiver in the draft.

After a career of production in the ACC, Harmon is set to be one of the top wide receivers selected in the draft.

If the Colts want to invest heavily playing for now and the future, Harmon should be in consideration for one of their first two picks in April’s draft.
